VISION
Asian Gatka Federation (AGF), under the aegis of the World Gatka Federation (WGF), has set up a comprehensive roadmap for development of Gatka from grassroots expansion to continental recognition. The ultimate vision is to ensure Gatka is not only preserved as a treasured cultural heritage but also firmly established as a competitive sport across Asia, with the long-term ambition of global inclusion.
Strategy to achieve recognition from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)
Short-term goals (1–2 years) Strengthening the foundation:
* To establish and formally register National Gatka Federations in a minimum of 8 additional Asian countries, ensuring their recognition by respective National Sports Authorities or Olympic Committees.
- To organize Asian Gatka Championships, inviting participation from all registered member nations.
- To launch a certified training and accreditation program for technical officials, coaches referees and judges from Asian countries to standardise officiating under “Train the Trainers” program.
- To create a dynamic digital ecosystem, website featuring a live ranking system, results database and athletes database to ensure transparency and engage fans.
Mid-term goals (3–5 years): Building momentum and visibility :
- To secure formal recognition for Gatka as a competitive sport from the National Olympic Committees or Sports Ministries in at least 12 Asian countries.
- To actively lobby for and secure demonstration sport status for Gatka at major regional multi-sport games, specifically targeting the South Asian Games and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
- To implement a structured grassroots development program by signing MOUs with schools, colleges, universities and sports academies to integrate Gatka into physical education curricula and extracurricular activities.
- To execute a robust marketing and media strategy including producing high-quality broadcast packages, securing live streaming deals and running targeted digital campaigns to showcase Gatka’s dynamism and cultural significance to a wider audience.
Long-term goals (5–8 years): Securing Continental and Global Status :
- To prepare and submit a comprehensive formal application for recognition to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The dossier will highlight strong governance, a wide participation base across gender and age groups, modern safety protocols and a clear alignment with OCA values.
- To secure inclusion as an official demonstration sport in a future edition of the Asian Games which is a critical stepping stone toward full medal status.
- To expand the AGF membership to a minimum of 25 active National Federations, each running structured annual domestic competitions that feed into the continental circuit.
- To establish a state-of-the-art ‘Continental Gatka Training and Research Center’ to serve as the hub for coaching excellence, talent identification, athlete development, and historical preservation.
- To forge strategic partnerships with global sports bodies, including the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and other established martial arts organizations, to exchange best practices and strengthen Gatka’s international credibility.
After securing OCA recognition, the WGF will commence work on the long-term strategic goals and prepare a formal application for recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in line with the broader vision for Gatka’s global inclusion.
